Sony UX50 Overview

Sony UX50

The Sony UX50 marks a new realm for PDAs. In fact, Sony is calling the UX50 a PEO (Personal Entertainment Organizer) instead of a PDA. The UX50 is heavy on multimedia. So if you got excited about the multimedia capabilities of the last few Clie models, then the UX50 is for you.

The Sony UX50 even looks different than other PDAs. The screen is landscape, which means it's wider than it is tall, at 480 X 320 pixels. As with previous Clie models, the thumb keyboard is one of the most apparent features. And the UX50 retains the camera that has become so standard with Clies. The Sony UX50 is smaller than recent Clies though. Because the screen is smaller, the whole thing more easily fits into your pocket.

The photo, video, and audio capabilities of the UX50 are first class, including MPEG-4 video. And it has more memory by far than any previous Clie, including dedicated multimedia memory. It has both Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless capabilities with internet software to go with it. Despite the multimedia emphasis, the Sony UX50 is still a top of the line PDA.

Oh, as you might guess, it ain't cheap. Sticker price of $699.99.

Sony UX50 Ratings

The Sony UX50 is quite new to the market, so there isn't much feedback yet. But the feedback that is available is real good. Of only user 9 votes on one web site, 78% recommended the UX50.

Professional Ratings: 8 out of 10 (1 review)

User Ratings: None available

So far, the only complaint is that the UX50 is so expensive.
